Our hiking guide Hans Peter
The Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region is for nature lovers, hikers and mountaineers a little bit what the South Pacific is for sun worshipers. In the midst of a mighty mountain world, 500 kilometers of signposted hiking trails extend, on which new views of a panorama open up again and again, which make your breath stand still. Hiking, mountaineering, climbing, themed & adventure trails: Serfaus opens the door to ever new mountain experiences.
Someone who knows the region's mountain world like the back of his hand is our in-house hiking guide, Hans Peter, who has been out and about in the mountains since he was a child. As a “farmer's boy” with grandfather, during the winter holidays with friends on touring skis. Even in summer nothing kept him in the valley. With friends, a tent and spartan equipment, he went into the mountains - for an indefinite period of time in an indefinite place, because after all there was no school. Because there was still no cell phone, the parents were informed about hikers passing by that the summer vacation in the mountains would be extended by another three days. At some point he came back home healthy and fresh and the worries of his parents came to an end - at least until the next adventure. In this way, life in Serfaus was naturally connected to the mountains and in the years that followed, Hans Peter walked down entire valleys in search of minerals and stones. Later, out of love for the mountains, he passed the mountain guide examination alongside his job as a therapeutic masseur.
From then on, Hans Peter shared his view of home and the places of his childhood with others. The guided hikes are more than just a route for him. He would like to bring the impressive landscape closer to the guests from the point of view of the locals, for example to show them which animals can be found on which alpine pastures. Wherever visitors see the monument of the mountains, he fills it with stories from the village and passes on knowledge about nature. Since he developed a great interest in medicinal plants in his traditional profession, he was particularly fond of plants and medicinal herbs. With Hans Peter you can find out what is good for your health, how to make plant extracts without alcohol, but also how to make schnapps from larch branches and how to prepare rosehip jelly. You can also look for "Schwammerl" (mushrooms). If guests show a lot of interest and enjoy a nice hike together, Hans Peter will once again be happy to return to the valley.
He stays fit even in winter - not as a hiking guide, but as an après-ski employee. And in his free time? Then he is drawn back to the mountains. Even if the father of three has already climbed Kilimanjaro, the most beautiful mountain experiences and memories come from home. All you need is Serfaus' local mountain, the Furgler, and a sunset that bathes the mountains in the most wonderful colors. A moment like this shared with good companions cannot be beat. And in his work as a hiking guide, Hans Peter is particularly happy when people recognize him even after years and remember the shared experiences. We cordially invite you to go on a hike together and wish you educational and enjoyable hours in the Serfaus mountains.
